I'm writing this from the domestic terminal in Wellington. I got here 3 hours early for my peak hour flight hoping to get on an earlier one. First of all they said no problem, then they said if I wanted to catch an earlier flight it would cost me another fare of $239! Of course the peak flight I was scheduled for will be full and they could have sold that seat easy and put me in a half empty flight, but no that's against policy.

Just this year I have flown domestically half a dozen times and I have been to the US and back as well, all with Air New Zealand. Virgin has just arrived in New Zealand and Air New Zealand is going to be appealing to me for my continued loyalty, well guess what, I'm going to go out of my way when I have a choice, to fly with anyone other than Air New Zealand in future. Instead of being able to sell an extra ticket, they will lose nout on thousands of dollars from me.

That was a good move on their part wasn't it? Of course I am also going to tell anyone who will listen about how shabbily they treat their frequent flyers. Do you think another airline would like my business?

In the days of Marinonga, the land knew only peace. The Nation, the one we call Waitaha, brought many people together to share their talents in harmony.

Some were of the Bird People; others carried the spirit of the Tree People, the Stone People, the Fire People and the Kumara People. There were even the Star People who followed the twinkling markers of the night across the oceans.

There were many peoples, and they had many children, and they spread throughout the land to become numerous as the sands upon the shore.

The waka (canoes) of Waitaha, the great double hulled vessels sailed the Long Tides to reach across the widest of oceans.

But many returned to Aotearoa because of its joy in the arms of Rongo-marae-roa, the Peace Maker. Generation after generation kept the promises of the Ancestors, lived the dream that lasted for a thousand years or more. Aue, those were the days….
…it was a long time of peace, a long time to be One with each other

The tide turned…

Who knows what happened in the homelands to thrust the peaceful ways aside and raise the warrior…?

Who knows what fostered the dark clouds that sent the warriors south on the long tides?

We welcomed these waka to these shores wearing cloaks of peace, but were greeted by the cries of war. The creed of death leapt swiftly across the waves and the old ways were soon no more.

The beginning of the Long Dark Night was marked by so many deaths, the waters of the rivers turned red for much blood flowed. These events marked the land, even in this day many places are in need of healing.

This act of genocide was but the beginning of many Nights of Pain. Those who unleashed the dogs of war found it hard to cage them again. Chaos is not easily tamed.

The blood that flowed was of the same source, for those who dealt in death were of the ancient lines as those who suffered. This was death of the worst kind, death loosed within the family. The pain of it turned the Ancestors in their graves, stirred the bones painted red in the burial caves, found those lost within the Tides and screamed, “You do this to your brothers and sisters!”

And what of Waitaha…they took up no weapons….lifted no hand to defy….gathered in circles….hand in hand…..man, woman and child…to receive the fatal blow…

Ae…how they lived was meant more to them than how they died.
They did not depart from the peaceful way, for they knew the death wielders sowed there own death, the death of spirit. To take the life of another, was to take your own away.

The manner of it strikes the core, because the weapon used was the Patu, the tongue of learning carved and fashioned in Punamu, to honour Peace. It is hard to forget that this taonga, carved in the sacred stone, that carried the Spirit of Aroha (love), was the chosen instrument of death.

Other waka with warriors, found their way into the southern ocean, feasting on the Nation that was broken. When that was done they turned upon each other.

Warfare spread like fire in the fern, it reshaped the land as never. The river of death was swept along by the need to repay death with death.

The next vessels to bring turmoil to the islands of Old Tides carried many sails. At first they came in peace, but set in motion events that changed much and led to conflict and in the end to more loss and pain, to more blood spilt in anger and greed, to shame the Spirit of Aotearoa.

Now the land carries the pain and reveals it in many ways.

Ae, it is time for the return of the peaceful warrior, those who learn the taiaha skills to discipline the mind, to learn the wisdom of the Ancestors and add compassion to courage.
That is the challenge of this age, the challenge that calls forth the truly brave,

Reconnect to the healing spirit that abides in all of us.

Heal the past,
heal yourself,
heal the land

The gate swings two ways. Old hurts can be hidden and remain, or revealed and healed to free the future of pain.
Kia Kaha!

Anyone got any good recommendations? I saw a few at Amazon.com, but I'm not sure what would be the best for my money... i don't want to have to buy four cd's to find one good chant. I dance with a professional Polynesian dance troupe, and we dance a Maori dance before we do poi typically in our shows. Unfortunately, none of our dancers really like the song we are doing now. It is too slow and quiet.

We acquired this song from a workshop in which our talented Maori teacher sang us a song on her guitar. We recorded it and that is what we use. It is very beautiful, but I think we are ready for a change. Can anyone recommend a song or cd that i can use? I'm looking for either a chant or a song, just as long as it is a moderate pace.

This Pakeha, or Pakelani as I joke, and Vaughan (couldn't remember what it was and called myself a Pakelani once...everyone got a big laugh from it) have been together for three years and the only real link I had was a friend of his, from back home, that would teach me about Spirit and Maori tradition. She passed away about 9 months ago however and I am left trying to learn more about his heritage on my own. I'm in the states and have never travelled to NZ, so learning about the culture is done from a distance.

Hello lovelies,

We are going to be hosting a workshop by an amazing presenter on 24 & 25 March. Highly recommended. If you know someone who might be interested, please let them know. The information is below, written by the presenter. Soon there will be a wee story of how this all came to pass on my tribe blog :-)

Connecting to Ones Enlightened self
(The irony being that when we become enlightened, there is no Self)
Enlightenment, Ascension, God Self, True self, Ones Truth, Unity, Oneness, Being, Presence, Heaven, Home, Higher Self, Incarnation of Goddess… Whatever……… The One that is at One with The One…….

These are all different flavours of the one state or one being, You, Me, Us. On some level we all know this, well, how about experiencing it, or being it. All That Is.

When this happens world-wide (and it will…) then all the Political, Social and Environmental problems will naturally resolve. It is our highest service to allow ourselves to be there, here, and everywhere, so let’s support each other in this.
We can do this ourselves by learning to raise our vibration, or frequency. Calming our mind and dissolving and transmuting our resistance, blocks, and all that stuff…. is good too. This can be simple and great fun and feels beautiful and uplifting, peaceful, empowering and humbling.

The facilitator, Sion, has been working and playing with techniques for raising ones vibration, connecting with ascended energies, accepting and transcending the blocks, and taking oneself to an enlightened state for many years. He is pretty good at it too. He is now also opening to the Grace and is being asked to be a Vessel for the Grace. He is thus is in the process of connecting with Enlightenment and would like to offer this by getting his self out of the way for a moment or two and allowing the grace to transmit to you.

Enlightenment is a Neuro-Biological shift in the Brain and The Energy systems.

The Keys for Freedom from the old “stuff’ (which you probably already know…) and creating a Life of Flow will also be offered. The subtle differences between Enlightenment and God Realisation will also be discussed and played with.

About The Facilitator:
Sion Richard A Windelov is a Minister (BA of Divinity) and a Reiki Master and has several other bits of paper too (somewhere…). He has been teaching in the fields of Body, Mind and Spirit since the age of 24, which was back in 94. A Channel for The Ascended Masters for many years, and a Earth healer who has travelled extensively, helping Gaia and family, to ease through this worldwide transformation as gracefully as possible. A Shaman, Spiritual councillor and Medical Intuitive, Sion has helped many people heal themselves, find their truth, and begin to really live it! Born in The Southern Alps of New Zealand, he has a 3 year old son, who has helped him ground greatly and is teaching him many things.

Location: 36 Clyde Rd (near the Uni)
Fendalton/Upper Ricarton, Christchurch

Suggested Donation: $80 one day, $140 two days

As one of the many peoples who were colonised and dispossessed by the British/French/American etc.. I have survived so my children will survive and so that my grandchildren will one day be free to live as their ansestors dreamed of..not in some physco white nightmare.

Our family feel that as Maori in your country it is incumbent on us to Support the struggle of the indigenous peoples in this land , and not to make a life here like many on the backs of aboriginal, men and women.

As a mother away from home, the only way I can teach and show my children my true culture and politic as a Maori women in struggle in my own lands, is to actively support aboriginal soverignty here, and to challenge the racism that is abundant and flourishes in Australia.

I believe in my heart that it is only right that the peoples of this land, run these lands from the basis of their cultures, be cause it is our breath as indigenous peoples to, Honour the spirit, Love the Land, Respect Nature, Resist Oppression, Value Tradition, Claim our Rights.

I've tried to be as honest as I can about places we've stayed and things we've seen and there should be links to just about everything we did so that other travellers can get the info they're after quickly without having to do the months of preperation that we had to do.
Im traveling with my beloved to New Zealand...Or we are in the stages of tickets, and gear.
Im an experienced traveller and I have a sense of what i would like to get out of this trip...though not to dismiss any divine mystery.

This trip to New Zealand means to me much rest, ease, and integration.
I want to be on the earth recieiving the healing of vast views and breath taking beaches.

SUN...mmmmmm

I m also in the mood to dance, and be a part of a participatory cosmic dance community of liquid sounds and tribal rhythms. Festivals, dances, music, drumming...

Sometimes i would also enjoy staying in a hostel or friendly space in which i could work and also help out...or be affordable....Intentional communities, permaculture farms....kind peoples houses...

Im hopeful i will be able to camp on some of these beaches and EAT ORGANIC FOOD:) O i can be such a virgo....well, i do value health especially when travelling.

If anyone out there has any advice, experience, forlorn, warning, direction, guidene or a kind word of encouragement on any of the above topics, (organic food, music dance festivals, artsy rootsy places to stay, communal places to visit, best beaches, healing views and spaces etc) it would help me so much in this continually challenging process of travel planning.

Much gratitude and appriciation,
I have been tearing apart the net, in my own feeble way, to try and find purchasable video footage of cutural dances. I ordered a DVD from a New Zeland web site that said it had the "Spear Dance" and "War Haka" advertised in nice big print. Yea, $40 for a total of 10 seconds of both. I got a better idea in "Whale Rider" than the eudcational video. Harumph.
Are the dances still a very private part of the culture? Or is it my poor web surfing skills?
Glasses and thick make-up.
Unfortunately the poodles were kept
back by the agriculture department.
Buying quaint plastic Teekees made in Hong Kong
To show the folks back home.
Esyes glittering as they savour the idea
Of chicken, curry and rice for one dollar
They're on holiday so they buy ten tickets.
Jaws agape, they see rice stew appear.
Laughs turn to stunned silence.
They can't tell the folks back home about that.
Still they can have a real breakfast
In the American Success in Picton.

Newmans driver
Almost friendly
Picks two chicks up young and trendy
Lift up skirts their knees are showing
His eyes light up, it's Nelson their going
Riding through the Rai Forest
They moan all the way
So in the end the frustrated driver
Makes them pay

(Things have changed since then)
